Victims turn up cut in half and the police call in John. DNA leads to a suspect locked up in an asylum who claims he can leave the place in dreams. John tracks the man's twin brother, actually a transsexual, and after another victim turns up he concludes that the twins were separated at birth and the victims are the child-service officials who had them separated and their mother is the one taking revenge.
Meanwhile, after hypno-regression therapy fails, John tries dating which doesn't go over well. After a brief sensory-deprivation session with the asylum doctor, Jansen, John has some vague visions but Jansen disappears along with the session tape. The police believe the same killer disposed of Jansen, but we find out he's been killed by the mysterious woman we saw at the end of the previous episode.

Episode Notes - |
Quotes:
Hypno-Therapist: How do you know so much about psycho-therapy?
John: I know so much about everything…except me.
(confronting the lower half of a corpse)
Avery: Any chance of ID on the body?
Frank: Well, I’m guessing magician’s lovely assistant. (Avery stares) Sawed in half.
Frank: Seriously, John, it’s scary you even know stuff like that.
John: Frank, can we not talk about what a freak I am today? Please?
(to John and Stella)
Frank: You two are not normal. Seriously – you terrify me.
Karen: I had to use all my nubile charms to get the company that holds speed dates to hold it here.
John :Speed dates – I’d better speed out of here.
(speed dating)
John: What do I do?
Karen: Umm, talk, chat, lie. What everyone else do when they meet someone new.
Smiley Girl: So…what kind of hobbies do you have?
John: Hobbies? Uhh, well, sometimes when I’m bored I like to test Stephen Hawking’s hypothesis on quantum cosmology, N theory, entropic principle.
Smiley Girl: Whatever.
Avery: Doe, you ever hear of 911? Picking up a phone?
John: To say what? “Okay, I was wrong about the first two guys to do it, but the third was the lucky charm”?
Digger: So what'd you do - go talk in Encyclopedia Brittanica again? You did, didn't you?
John: I didn't know what to say.
Digger: Hint - whatever they want to hear.
John: You know, you have no idea what it’s like to have zero personality. I mean, that girl, I had a connection for, like three seconds. Never mind.
Digger: My third wife had no personality and we were married for four years.
Karen: Let's focus on making some new memories.
Digger: Well, the best way I know to fashion a memory or two is good old healthy fornication.
Trivia:
John mentions to the one woman that after his imaginary parents left Twin Falls they moved to Istanbul. In the previous episode we saw that there were folks in Istanbul (or thereabouts) who appear to know about him. Subconscious memory, perhaps? Plus we later find out John is connected to Idaho in "Idaho."
It's never really explained how the killer manages to cut her victims in half, using nothing more than what appears to be a butcher knife. |
