Daphne becomes extremely depressed the week before her wedding, and cannot stop crying. Niles tells Frasier that he is having second thoughts about his relationship with Mel. Frasier suggests that he still might have feelings for Daphne, but Niles denies it. Daphne confesses to Frasier that she knows how Niles feels about her, and that she might feel the same way. Frasier encourages her to talk to Niles as soon as possible, but she has to wait a few days because he has gone away with Mel. Niles returns and shocks Martin with the announcement that he and Mel have eloped. He tries to hide this from Daphne so as not to upstage her wedding, but she soon finds out. She puts on a brave face, but is devastated.
