Frederick prepares for his bar mitzvah. Frasier is honored when his son asks him to give a blessing at the event, and decides to learn his speech in Hebrew. Noel offers to help him if Frasier gets him Scott Bakula's autograph at a sci-fi convention. Noel needs it to complete his collection of autographs of the Star Trek captains, but cannot get it himself because of William Shatner's pesky restraining order against him. Frasier makes other plans with Niles and is unable to make it to the convention in time. When Noel expresses anger, Frasier suggests that he "grow up" and stop obsessing over science fiction. Noel gets revenge by teaching Frasier the blessing in Klingon instead of Hebrew. He later discovers that Frasier has left him a thoughtful gift and a thank you note, and tries in vain to warn him. Lilith embarrasses Frederick during the bar mitzvah by sharing humiliating stories about his childhood; and suffering a breakdown over the fact that he is growing up. Frasier's Klingon speech leaves him even more humiliated, until a friend translates it. Frederick is touched by his father's words. Meanwhile, Daphne is bemused to finally learn of Niles' long-ago one-night stand with Lilith; and Martin repeatedly terrorizes everyone with a camera that features the world's brightest flash.
