english 5ive Days To Midnight (2004) - 1x04 - Part Four

Plot Outline

As the day of his predicted death approaches, a deeply depressed J.T. seems resigned to his fate. He creates a last will and testament, leaving everything to his daughter, Jesse, and tries to record some words of wisdom to help her when he's gone. Meanwhile, Jesse manages to get into the briefcase and becomes distraught over the case file inside. But Jesse isn't ready to give up, and after J.T. explains the situation, she convinces him he must keep fighting back.

When Jesse takes off for school with Claudia, J.T. begins a last-ditch effort to change his destiny. His plan is to remove every suspect's motive and opportunity to kill him. First, he tricks Carl into coming to the hospital, where he's arranged for Dan to have Carl committed to the psychiatric ward for observation. Then, he meets Brad and tells him that he can have the briefcase — and the fortune it will bring — as long as he can wait until Monday. Finally, he leaves a message for Roy Bremmer that he has something to give him.

Claudia and Jesse have their own plans. Claudia goes to a locker at the train station to retrieve some mysterious, but clearly valuable, papers. Then she calls to set up a meeting with Bremmer. Jesse skips out of school, determined to change all the little things that are connected to J.T.'s death. Looking for some hope, she visits the cemetery where Mandy Murphy is being buried. There she finds the sign she's looking for — Mandy may be dead, but the dog that was supposed to die with her is very much alive. Fate, she reasons, must not be immutable.

Bremmer and J.T. agree to meet at a location that turns out to be "Buck Naked," the strip joint where J.T. is supposed to die. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to J.T., someone releases Carl from the psych ward. He arrives at J.T.'s just ahead of Brad, and absconds with the briefcase.

The showdown with Bremmer doesn't go as planned. J.T. shows him the police file and offers him the amazing briefcase it came in, promising it will bring him untold wealth. But the mobster isn't interested in a deal. He's interested in getting to Claudia and he's willing to kill anyone who gets in his way. As guns are drawn and things turn ugly, Sikorski arrives with backup and arrests Bremmer.

But that doesn't mean J.T. is safe. On the way home, J.T. and Sikorski visit Carl's loft, where police have uncovered an elaborate recreation of J.T.'s murder, based on the case file reports and photos. The student, it seems, is determined that his teacher meets his end as fate — and the laws of physics — demand.
