Upon arriving in Mexico, Conrad is taken to meet the mercenary with whom Knapp has contracted for the firepower they need to find Leo. As King crosses the border, he gets word from Archer that not only has the trumped up case against him gained traction back home, but that the FBI has sent an agent to follow him. Meanwhile, after learning that Conrad's mistress, Claire Philips, has turned up dead, Archer gets Atkins to admit that he has been ordered to make a phony case against King. And as Ellie confirms for Virgil that everyone is now in Mexico, Leo again escapes from his captors.
As Archer keeps running into dead ends back in New York, King turns to Sheriff Espinoza for information about Leo and his captors. But, as Knapp coerces a shady contact into shadowing the mercenaries that have been enlisted to find Leo, King suspects Espinoza of working a scam of his own to collect the ransom. And after the sheriff leads him to where Leo was being held, King comes face to face with Ailes, the FBI agent who has been sent to Mexico as part of the phony corruption case. Meanwhile, Leo avoids being recaptured long enough for Virgil to rescue him.
Now that he has Leo in his hands, Virgil must get him back to safety - which is no mean feat with the mercenaries closing in fast. Then, as he gets word that it is Vance who is behind the plot to frame him, King makes his way to the abandoned prison where Leo had been held. After King cleverly exposes Ailes as an imposter posing as the FBI agent, an all out war breaks loose that pits him and Knapp against the mercenaries. And even though he helps to save King and return Leo to his grateful dad, Virgil dies while en route back home. Finally, a letter written by the late Claire Philips to Emerson Jaynes, a man who Turner connects to the imprisoned Kellog, causes Ellie to recall hearing the name back when she was in the hospital where Leo was taken after he nearly drowned.
