Clay Harper and his fiance, Cindy Harris, are in New York celebrating his return from Iraq when Clay suffers a debilitating stroke. Hanson and Seger are at odds on how to treat it: Hanson, always the cut and dried clinician, looks for hard medical facts. Seger thinks his recovery will also depend on the support he gets from Cindy. Both doctors need help when a clear diagnosis eludes them and Clay's condition worsens. They also treat Tilly Bates, an older woman whose brain tumor has made her a much nicer person.
