TNT’s unique and highly personal drama HEARTLAND stars acclaimed actor Treat Williams as Dr. Nathaniel Grant, a pioneering organ-transplant surgeon who takes risks that other doctors would not in order to save the lives of his patients. At St. Jude Regional Transplant Center in Pittsburgh, Dr. Grant is on track to become the new chief surgeon, a position currently held by his mentor, Bart Jacobs, who is ill with a failing lung and liver. One of Dr. Grant’s current cases is a teenage girl in desperate need of a new heart. After a woman is fatally injured in a car accident, her heart becomes available and is transplanted into the girl. Afterwards, the donor’s husband wants to see the girl who got his wife’s heart, despite there being very strict protocols preventing the hospital from giving him any information about her. Meanwhile, a grieving grandmother doesn’t want her deceased grandson’s organs to be donated, despite pleas from Kate Armstrong, whose job it is to obtain family consent. And Kate and Nate’s daughter, Thea, gets into trouble trying to steal condoms from a drug store.
