Dr. Bart Jacobs suffers a horrible setback, and his son decides to have him put on a ventilator, despite the fact that Jacobs has a DNR order preventing such a thing. Nathaniel attempts to step in on behalf of Jacobs, but even Jacobs' wife seems determined to keep him a live. As Nathaniel and Kate head to Cincinnati to handle a lung recovery, Dr. Jonas is put in charge of the hospital. His first order of business is complex multi-visceral transplant that Dr. Grant had originally turned down because of the patient's poor chance of survival. And Simon's fellowship is up in one week, so he is going above and beyond the call of duty to impress his superiors and hopefully garner a permanent position at the hospital.
