Plot Outline

All hell is about to break loose in a sleepy New Jersey town when a sudden violent storm washes in more than the tide. The peaceful existence of a small seaside community will dramatically change forever when Christina Nickson is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer. The Kramers, including Ben's wife, Meg, and daughter, Judy, take an instant liking to Christina and invite her stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother, a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. Unbeknownst to Christina, her presence in the town is having a profound effect on its inhabitants - awakening repressed feelings, unlocking secret desires and heightening emotions. As Christina seeks answers to her mother's disappearance, she will come to realize that she has never known her "real" father either - for Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil. While Christina struggles to control the demon inside her (and the powers that come with it), the fight for her soul has begun and the town of Point Pleasant has turned into the ultimate battleground of good vs. evil.

Episode Notes - EDIT EPISODE
Despite a fair amount of buzz over Point Pleasant at the upfronts, FOX turned down the pilot and didn't pick it up for the fall schedule. When a second script was written FOX loved it and ordered it for midseason.

Point Pleasant succeeded in bringing in new viewers for FOX in the Thursday night death slot, beating the previous dramas Tru Calling and North Shore, due to heavy promotion by FOX. Except Tru Calling aired in the 8:00 timeslot instead of 9:00.

The church Christina goes to has also been used on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Most notably in the fourth season episode "Who Are You?". It also may be the same church featured in the Miracles pilot episode.

Original Ratings: 8.0/11 in the overnights. 11.68 million viewers. The show came out at #3 for the night.

This episode aired after American Idol, in FOX's attempt to attract teenagers to the series, hoping they would follow it to Thursday's in hopes to put a "dent in CSI's side".

Quotes:
Lucas: She's the child of darkness, and she's under his protection now. She is his daughter'.

Kingston Nixon : 'She's also the daughter of a woman. That means she has a choice.

Trivia:
The strange symbol in Christina's eye stands for 666 - the mark of the "beast" (Satan).

Seemingly all the sexual tension and fights are influenced by Christina's presence.

Harlan is killed by a swarm of bees. Bees have been used to symbolize evil and darkness, so they will probably appear frequently throughout the series.

This marks the first time the stained-glass window in the church is broken.

The name of the church Christina goes to is St. Martin's.

Allusions:
Boyd mentions that Point Pleasant will play host to the biggest war since the angels fell from heaven, referring to the battle in which Satan and his fellow angels were cast out of heaven.

A fish symbol can be seen on Jessie's truck, which is a popular religious symbol.
