Armed with courage and little information about her late birth mother, Sarah arrives in New York to find her father. After tracking her mother co-workers, she realizes that it will be very hard to find him. She finds her mother old apartment in the Village, and tries to move into it. But the apartment is occupied by Romy, an actress, and they agree on living together, since Romy can't afford the rent. She meets Maguire who owns the music store across the street, and gets a job as a waitress at the bar across the street with Joss.
