Episode Notes - |
Original UK Airdate: 19 October 2004
Original US Airdate: 14 January 2005
At the start of this episode, just over five days have passed since the conclusion of the miniseries.
The US version of the series, starting from this (the pilot) episode, made two subtle introductory changes: the Sci-Fi Channel added the episode title (between the "Previously on" section and the start of action) and changed the opening theme music.
This episode received the 2005 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series.
This was the first episode to be shown in its entirety online. It was available for viewing on SciFi's official website along with deleted scenes from the episode.
Quotes:
Petty Officer 2nd Dualla: (to Adama) Com. traffic, sir. Two from Colonial One.
Commander William Adama: (to Tigh) Whose ten minutes is it?
Col. Saul Tigh: Yours. I took ten last time.
Commander William Adama: All right, I'll see you both at combat.
(walks off)
Petty Officer 2nd Dualla: I believe it was your ten minutes, sir.
Col. Saul Tigh: The old man's so tired he can't even remember it's his turn.
Tigh: Yes, we are tired. Yes, there is no relief. Yes, the Cylons keep coming after us time after time after time. And yes, we are still expected to do our jobs!
Number Six: Procreation is one of God's commandments.
Dr. Baltar: Really? Well, I'm sure someday if you're a good Cylon, he'll reward you with a lovely little walking toaster of your very own.
Cally: Why do the Cylons come every 33 minutes? Why isn't it 34, 35...
Tyrol: Cally.
Cally: (Annoyed). What?
Tyrol: Shut up.
Starbuck: You're the CAG act like it.
Lee: What the hell is that supposed to mean.
Starbuck: It means that you're acting like you're everyones best friend. We're not friends, you're the CAG
Tigh: If the crew doesn't hate the X.O., then he's not doing his job.
Starbuck: We're not friends, you're the CAG. "Be careful out there"? Our job isn't to be careful, it's to shoot Cylons out of the fracken sky! Good hunting is what you say. And now one of your idiot pilots is behaving like a child, and refusing to take her pills. So she either says "Yes, sir" and obeys a direct order or you smack her in the mouth and drag her down to sickbay and you make her take those pills.
Apollo: Well, I'm glad I'm not working for you.
Apollo: What about you Boomer? Doc says you're holding out better than any of us.
Boomer: I'm tired just like everyone else.
Apollo: Yeah, well you don't look it.
Starbuck: It's 'cause she's a Cylon!
Boomer: You're just gonna make me come over there and kick your ass, aren't you?
Trivia:
The pilots in the briefing room touch a picture of a man looking out at the destruction of his city. Although not explained in the episode that aired, the picture was introduced in a scene cut from the episode where it was presented to President Roslin ('Mary McDonnell' ). It was supposed to have been taken on the roof of the capitol building in Aerilon City during the Cylon attack. Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore said that the picture was inspired by the famous picture of the fireman raising the American flag at the World Trade Center site in New York City following the terrorist attacks on the USA of 11 September 2001.
The Colonial equivalent of radar is "dradis".
At the end of the episode, the fleet consisted of 47,973 people.
At the start of this episode, just over five days have passed since the conclusion of the miniseries.
The Rising Star was the name of one of the ships from the original show's fleet.
Goofs:
When the clock in CIC is kept running after the Cylons fail to make the 240th appearance, the Electronic display above the Situation Table is shown counting up to 45 minutes. However after +44:49:99, the numbers roll over to show +45:00:00, completely skipping the last 10 seconds. |
