A telephone lineman, Tyler Andrew Ward, is hit by a lightning "sprite" in a freak accident and is clinically dead for 3 hours. Afterwards he is plagued by odd phenomena and confusion, but soon begins to hear and see people's thoughts when they're feeling strong emotions. Tyler uses his new gift to gain wealth through gambling and stock brokering. His power continues to grow and he starts to lose control over both his powers and his sanity while the electrical charge in his body increases. After driving away his only friends, he climbs back up a telephone pole in the middle of a storm...and he wakes up only to have everything happen all over again, even faster.
