The Alive strand concludes with the story of five friends who were left fighting for their lives when their boat was struck by a hippo while they were fishing on one of Africa's remotest rivers. Their only hope of survival was to send someone to the riverbank to get help, so one of their number attempted to swim for shore - and was attacked by a crocodile. His experience of the wild helped him escape with his life, but he soon faced an encounter with angry army ants and a buffalo, while his friends spent a traumatic night fending off crocodiles with only a boat paddle for protection.
