August 19, 1998 - her mother died of uterine cancer, with which she had struggled for ten months. In January 1998, she won the role of Julie Emrick on "Felicity" (1998) but considered turning it down to be with her mother, during her last days.

She cites the main reason for depature from Felicity in 2000 was that she needed to grieve for her mother. Her mother had died two years previously and she felt that being on such a prominent show hadn't given her the time or space to do so.
