The only band to appear at the three major pop festivals of the 1960s; Monterey, Woodstock and Altamont.
The band appeared at the very first Isle of Wight festival in 1968. This also happened to be their debut appearance in Britain.
Members have included Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Spencer Dryden, Jack Casady, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen, Skip Spence. The original band disbanded in 1973, but was revived by Slick and Kantner a few months later, backed by several other musicians and rechristened Jefferson Starship. Original vocalist Balin rejoined the band in late 1974.
When the original band decided to break up, they broke off into two other popular bands: Jefferson Starship and Hot Tuna. |
