Biography
An Emmy-winning director, with 20 years of experience in writing, producing and directing in film and TV, Joe Rassulo founded Dream Street Films in 1989 to create ideas, concepts and scripts for feature films, network television, cable television and Public Broadcasting. He has won numerous awards, including an Emmy for directing. He has directed, supervised and collaborated on more than 100 works including teleplays, plays, screenplays, promotional films, trailers, music videos and commercials. Two of his screenplays, "Belly of the Beast" and "The Girl Next Door" are currently optioned. He is currently producing an independent film entitled They Would Love You in France (2003) for Look Ma' Productions in Los Angeles. His film, Things Left Unsaid (2000), premiered at the recent Palm Springs International Film Festival and features Lisa Eichhorn, Chris Mulkey, Gretchen German and Stephanie Romanov. It is currently being developed as a TV series. Joe, working with his partner Arnold Margolin, has also just finished, "Bull Run...where divorce brings people together", a full treatment for an hour-long TV series based on his full-length docudrama "8 short films about Divorced Dads."Joe's new screenplay, "Glen Sherley", is currently optioned by Lou Pitt and the PittGroup and is being shopped. He is also working on two new screenplays, "Book Him" based on Dave Woodruff's short story "How Does It End",and "Parental Guidance" (with Bruce Kalish). His other current screenplays include "On the Chase", "The Presence of Angels", "Killing Me Softly" (with Gherarda Castillo), "Shane, Come Back" and "Sonny Boy at the Grand Hotel" (under development). He has also written for the Discovery/Fireworks cable series "Black Hole High" and has created, written and directed 18 episodes of "M-zone", a children's series for Pierson Educational TV.As a director, Joe has worked on numerous film and TV projects, including "The Journey of Allen Strange" (1997), a Nickelodeon half-hour TV series; a two-hour docu-drama about divorced fathers entitled "8 short films about Divorced Dads", now being distributed on videocassette in North America (www.dadsforlife.com); "Children & Violence", a two-hour CBS News Special with Dan Rather; "Role Models", a Public Service Campaign featuring 11 members of the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Coyotes; "Killing news series and a half-hour TV Special for CBS on divorced dads and their kids, now being marketed across the country; "911 Earth", a half-hour children's program on the environment, broadcast as a TV Special on NBC; "Self-Esteem", "Everyday Heroes" and "KidStuff" a Public Service Campaign for NBC/Phoenix, and ABC/Denver.As a stage director he has worked at theaters around the country, including the Public Theatre in New York, the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, the Eisenhower Theatre in Washington, DC, Actors Alley and the Variety Arts Club in Los Angeles and Long Beach (where he won a Best Director Award for the revival of Rod Serling's "Requiem for a Heavyweight"), ATOP and The Herberger Theatre in Phoenix, among others. As an actor he has starred in two television pilots, The Power Within (1979) (TV) and "Miss Winslow and Son" (1979), for Aaron Spelling and John Ritter; appeared in numerous episodic network TV shows; has appeared in a number of television movies, including A Mother's Revenge (1993) (TV) on ABC, in which he co-starred opposite Lesley Ann Warren and Bruce Davison; and A Stranger to Love (1996) (TV), in which he co-starred with Beau Bridges and Tess Harper. He also hosts and produces his own live cinema salon, "Talking Pictures", on Sunday nights at the Interactive Cafe in Santa Monica. It is based on a two-hour talk-radio show he hosted on the East Coast about film and its cultural, political and social influences. He has also taught Contemporary Cinema and Film Producing and Financing for ten years.
