If this is a harbinger of the week ahead, I may be taking off on a last-minute vacation tonight.
ABC has gone and canceled one of TV's most consistently heartwarming hours, Men in Trees.
The sad, depressing news was just confirmed to me by series creator Jenny Bicks, who says she was informed of the network's decision late last week. "I am really proud of the work we did on MIT," she tells me. "A huge thank you to our supportive fans."

Who knew amnesia has such plum benefits? Sofia Vergara, whose year-long courtship with ABC has thus far taken her to Knights of Prosperity and Dirty Sexy Money, next will bring her considerable charms to Men in Trees. Appearing in at least two episodes, Vergara will play a book editor/associate of upcoming guest star Morgan Fairchild's, who takes a shine to Patrick, the memory-addled bumpkin.

Lifetime has dared to burst ABC's bubble. The Alphabet net, sources tell the Reporter, courted the cabler to air either or both Men in Trees and October Road. Lifetime execs, however, reportedly declined to pick up either.

ABC's Men In Trees will be pulled off the network's schedule in favour of new drama October Road, it has been confirmed.
October Road will make its debut on March 15 with ABC's top-rated Grey's Anatomy as a lead-in. The series follows a young, popular author named Nick Garrett (Bryan Greenberg) who goes back to his hometown to work through his writer's block. There, he discovers resentment among the friends he left behind years ago.
Men In Trees will return to the schedule after October Road's initial run.
ABC has also confirmed that Six Degrees will return to the network's lineup in March. The seven remaining unaired episodes of the series will be burned off starting March 23.
