| 1x01 - Family First (Pilot): | | Jimmy's plan to help his brother Kevin out of gambling debt with a truckload of stolen designer shirts backfires, forcing the two to kidnap local mob boss Sal Minnetta's nephew Louie. When Sal's right-hand-man Nicky Cottero decides to take the matters into his own hands, it's up to Tommy, the brainy one of the Donnelly brothers, to choose between fighting for his family and life as an honest man. |
| 1x02 - A Stone Of The Heart: | | As the Donnelly family learns Sean's condition, Jimmy impatiently sits in a holding cell. Tommy and Kevin have to accept what they did as they visit Sean. Overwhelmed, Tommy confides in Jenny Reilly, his longtime childhood friend, which ultimately leads to more than friendship. The brothers tie up Jimmy's loose ends by disposing the body and paying back the mob. Meanwhile, Nicky Cottero seizes control of the Italian mob while the murder investigation begins. |
| 1x03 - God Is a Comedian (a.k.a. God Is a Comedian Playing To an Audience Afraid to Laugh): | | Tommy deals with Sean losing his health coverage and the hospital shoving him into the mentally disturbed ward. Jimmy convinces Kevin to bail him out of prison, despite Tommy's accurate predictions of what Jimmy will do once he's out. Tommy deals with his guilt about taking the lives of Sal and Huey, even if it was to save his brother. |
| 1x04 - The World Will Break Your Heart: | | Tommy is shocked and guilt-ridden when Kate, Huey's widow, asks him to host the murdered ringleader's wake at the Firecracker. When the brothers realize the taps are dry, Kevin and Joey Ice-Cream go on a mission to find alcohol and end up supplying the Irish wake with kosher wine. When drugged-addled Jimmy appears to pay his respects, it raises Dokey's suspicions that his brother Huey was killed by the troubled Donnelly boy, ultimately leading to a standoff. |
| 1x05 - Lies: | | Tommy realizes the Italian's new mob boss Nicky Cottero means business on collecting his debt when he threatens the boys mother, Helen. After exhausting all options, Tommy takes Dokey's bribe and while visiting Huey's widow, steals a box that Dokey wants. Jimmy and Joey Ice Cream find the former Louie Downtown's cellphone and, after realizing he was running a gambling circuit, start to collect on his payments. | 1x06 - Run Like Hell: | | Tommy gets pulled into Jimmy and Kevin's bookmaking action when he realizes the guy about to get busted for not paying is his friend Maxwell. When Tommy decides to track the money down himself, he gets played by his friend and ultimately ends up doing the busting. As Jimmy has Kevin toss Louie Downtown's phone, we meet Whitey who helps him transfer the numbers -- but a flash into the future shows this relationship is headed for trouble. | 1x07 - The Only Thing Sure: | | Tommy and Jimmy have a role-reversal when it's Jimmy who's painting the bar and protecting Sean from the business. Meanwhile, Tommy is collecting on payments with Kevin. A flashback to Kevin's childhood shows why he believes he's truly lucky as a gambler. Jenny struggles to maintain the family's diner and watch over her ailing father. |
| 1x08 - In Each One A Savior: | | Tommy, being the so-called new head of the neighborhood, is guilted into helping a woman evict drug dealers from her building, only to feel scammed when he finds out she may be one herself. Jimmy continues in his attempts to take over the neighborhood and stoops to an all-time low when he demands payment from Jenny and her father. Nicky Cottero finds out that Kevin and the Donnellys are behind Louie Downtown's disappearance. |
| 1x09 - All of Us Are in the Gutter: | | Huey's widow Kate helps Tommy get a job at an art studio, as he attempts to separate himself from the "business" and move toward his dream of painting. When Nicky finds out about Louie Downtown's cell phone, he decides not to kill Kevin, and instead offers a partnership to the Donnellys. The catch is, he'll only deal with Tommy, which infuriates Jimmy and pulls Tommy back into the world he's trying to escape. |
| 1x10 - When the Door Opens: | | Things go horribly wrong for the Donnellys when their loyalty is put to the test. |
| 1x11 - Wasn't That Enough?: | | Dokey and Helen warn Tommy to stay away from helping Reilly, but he persists. His research leads him into the past, where he learns that his father was once in a neighborhood real estate partnership with Huey and the Italians. The day he tried to get out was the day that he was beaten to death by Dokey and some Italians. |
| 1x12 - The Black Drop: | | Tommy makes a deal to see if Nicky can find out who killed his father. The body of Jenny's husband turns up. Dokey humiliates Jimmy by shaving his head and tar and feathering him. In retaliation, Tommy and Kevin beat Dokey to a pulp in front of the entire neighborhood. |
| 1x13 - Easy Is the Way: | | Tommy wants to get everybody out of the city so Dokey can't harm them but this turns out to be harder than he thought it would be. In the meantime, Samson becomes an even bigger problem for Jenny than she can handle through normal actions and the Donnellys end up with a bloody shoot-out. |
