Can a former car thief or an unemployed single-mum run their own restaurant? That's what Jamie Oliver wants to find out in his new series, Jamie's Chef.
Five years ago Jamie Oliver set out to turn around the lives of a group of disadvantaged youngsters by training them to cook at his new restaurant, Fifteen. The results, shown on Channel 4's Jamie's Kitchen, made captivating viewing. Fifty trainees have now been through the restaurant's scheme, but Jamie wants to take the next, giant leap - helping one of them to set up their own restaurant. He's going to have to pick one of the graduates for this amazing opportunity and then give them a crash course in all the skills they're going to need to run a restaurant.
As well as cooking they'll also be managing staff, sourcing ingredients, attracting customers, paying the bills and doing the paperwork. But with nearly 70% of new restaurants failing in the first two years, is Jamie asking
too much?
