Minicab driver Keith Barratt shares his thoughts and cheery philosophy with a camera mounted on his dashboard. It is through this device that we follow his life, and - in particular - learn of his estrangement from his wife Marion, the mother of their two children, Rhys and Alun. Marion has fled into the arms of her work colleague Geoff, taking the children with her.
Far from being devastated by the bleak turn of events, and the great many downturns in his life that strike him with the relentless force of hammer blows, Keith - the eternal innocent - is bent on seeing only the bright side of life, going to inordinate lengths to rationalise just how fine he is with his rapidly deteriorating situation. His attitude toward Geoff, for instance, the man who stole his wife, is 'I don't feel like I lost a wife, more like I gained a friend'. Marion, who heaps emotional abuse on to him, is similarly 'understood'. His children clearly have been subverted by both Marion and Geoff, turning against their father in a most cutting fashion. Keith seems resolutely chipper about it all; underneath, though, his soul is howling.
