The first known stable wormhole is discovered by Benjamin Sisko, commander of Deep Space Nine. The Bajorans believe the wormhole is the Celestial Temple of the Prophets and they name Sisko the Emissary of Prophets. The wormhole leads to the Gamma Quadrant, on the other side of the galaxy. This area of space is mostly dominated by the Dominion. The Dominion is led by the Changelings, a race of shapeshifters which Constaple Odo belongs, and includes many races including the Vorta and the Jem'Hadar. With the Romulan and Cardassian Empires suffering from a brutal defeat at the hands of the Dominion and many races fearing being over run by Dominion forces, the Federation and the Klingon Empire remained as the last hope for the Alpha Quadrant. Fear of being over run and constant attacks drove the Cardassians onto the side of the Dominion. This soon led to the most devastating war the Alpha Quadrant has ever seen. The crew of Deep Space Nine must fight to protect their way of life and the entire Alpha Quadrant.
