Katie Sampson, a 43-year-old mother of three and wife of Ari, is diagnosed with breast cancer. On one of her regular appointments at the hospital, Katie accidentally runs into the crew and host of Post-Op, a failing reality TV show filmed at the hospital. She quickly turns the tables on the host and sets the audience on fire with her wit, candor, and charisma. The producers get rid of the host, hire Katie, and the show takes off.
Katie's battle with cancer impacts heavily on the TV series and her family. While she captures the hearts and minds of viewers looking for something to believe in, the stakes are high for her and her family as she battles for her life.
Along with a loving husband and a difficult father-in-law who survived Auschwitz, Katie's children, Sarah, Nicky and Eli, struggle to cope with their mother's potentially terminal illness and seek out new adventures and confidants. While Katie's daughter rebels, her teenage son begins to worship pot and older women, and her seven-year-old becomes obsessed with God and death.
Terminal City looks at a family through the twin lenses of cancer and reality television. The 10-hour mini-series is a darkly-comedic exploration of a family living on the edge, pursuing hedonism, happiness and fame. It's the modern family.
