Patriotic landlord 'Guv', runs a pub so successful it has no name. Simply known as The Pub By The Gasworks (or The Pub With No Name), the Guv has big plans for his gaff - he longs for the day when he can get his car park, beer garden and carvery - but fails in his ambitions at every turn, his fragile ego trampled on constantly by the cocky Queen of Hearts Guv'nor, Greg Thompson.
Guv's pub is inhabited by the most pathetic alcoholics ("we prefer the term, Publican's Friend") you could ever wish to meet, including the Prof. ("it's more of a nicky-name"), 'Grandad', and the ever-desperate Terry ("a mouth's a mouth"). The staff are equally as incompetent, from the rather simple Steve, to Australian Janet (series 1 - "Aussies; they're bred for bar work, it's instinct! Iiiiiinstinct!") and Connie (series 2).
